How to choose the right Arabic course!

Bismillah,

So you decide that you want to learn Arabic and proceed to enrol yourself on a course, buy textbooks and audio CDs/DVDs. Two three weeks into the course you realise you still can’t hold a conversation with your Arab friend or read the Qur’an and understand it in its original Arabic like you had hoped. So you quit disappointed and put off learning Arabic for another year.

The above is a classic case of what many enthusiastic Arabic learners go through. To avoid getting disappointed and wasting precious time, ask yourself this ONE question:

What do you want to use your Arabic language skills for?

  • Is it to read and understand the Qur’an in Arabic?
  • To hold a conversation with your Arab friends without getting laughed at for sounding like a news reporter, order a shawarma in Lebanon or qahwa in Cairo?
  • To write a formal letter to the head of a company in the Gulf or become an Arabic translator?

Based on the answers to the above, go ahead and choose the right type of Arabic course that will help you achieve your goals, allow you to enjoy your Arabic learning journey and save you time and money!
