Bingo Game
Laminate the sheets with letters (start with sheets with foll form and then work your way to the broken letters and end up with joint letters). The teacher calls out a letter and they find it and circle it on their sheets using whiteboard pens which can then be wiped and reused. At the end the class shouts out “Bingo Bismillah” together 🙂

The children can get used to working out the broken letters by matching them to the full form letter. Laminate the sheet to keep it safe and usable for many years to come.

Velcro Game
There are many different variations to how this game can be played. It is true that Alphabet board are easily available online – but they can be expensive when you are buying several for your classroom. So instead why not make your own and use it in multiple ways.
This is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, the children have to arrange the letters in order. Once done you can ask them to point out the heavy letters or the naughty letters etc. Or you can go round the children asking them to name the letter, they get to hold on to it if they get it right and the one with the most letters at the end is the winner.

A game idea to teach Arabic alphabet recognition to the younger children.
The children love playing this game. They wear a blindfold (or close their eyes) and guess the letter shape by feeling it. If you use textured (glittery) foam cut out into the letter shape and stuck onto smooth foam, it works really well and really makes the children think about the shape and where the dots are placed.

A fellow Arabic teachers of the younger years at our Islamic Saturday school has shared many of her ideas and games with me on how to teach and review the Arabic alphabets.
Here is the Lollipop sticks game:
This game is a fun way to reinforce the learning of new letters. The children are given lollipop sticks with letters (laminated and velcroed) on them corresponding to the letters they are learning that week; eg: ba, ta, tha. The teacher calls out a letter and they lift the stick they think is correct.
