Arabic Prepositions – Hands on Activity

Download the Prepositions Match-up Game Pdf HERE Bismillah,

My students have been utilising hands on activities to revise for their end of year exams. I have allocated 30 minutes independent study time within each lesson for the last two weeks.

The girls get the chance to develop their revision skills and to help each other to achieve high grades. I explained to the girls that your friend doing well on the exams means she now understands the Qur’an a little better in the language Allah revealed it in and you helped her achieve this.

The following activity was created to help them revise the Arabic prepositions.

The Giggly Guide to Arabic Grammar

Bismillah,

A project that I gave to my students to complete during their half term break was to create a book titled “The Giggly Guide to Arabic Grammar”. Inshallah, one day, I hope to author this book myself but I wanted to see what my lovely year 8s would come up with.

This turned out to be a good way of encouraging the girls to review the grammar topics they had learnt over their break. By working on presenting the grammar rules in a creative and light hearted way, the girls have both realised which grammar rules they can explain to others (because they have understood it themselves) and that Arabic can be fun to learn.

Here are pics of some good project work from my class:

This makes a nice class project should you wish to try it out. Please send pictures so I can publish the good work on this blog.

Arabic Verbs in the past tense

Bismillah,

My year 8s, 9s and 10s are learning 20 verbs that are oft-mentioned in the Qur’an, a useful list which I can work from to help teach concepts such as conjugations in the different tenses, nouns, and keywords in the Qur’an by extension.

E.g. By learning the verb “s-j-d” سَجَدَ  I can help students with past/present tense conjugation for the different subject pronouns and help them identify nouns that are created out of this verb e.g. “masjid”. So the verb roots are really the key to making students feel confident in exploring the Qur’an.

Here is a worksheet I will be using in this week’s lesson to review

  • Past Tense conjugation
  • 20 verbs + English meaning
  • Subject pronouns

Arabic reading and writing pack

Bismillah,

Last term, Class 4 covered the following Arabic reading and writing topics:

  • Shaddah
  • Alif Maqsurah
  • Suspended Alif
  • Natural Madd – Alif, Waw and Yaa

Class 4’s teacher sent the following reading and writing pack home to help parents make revision with their children over the Winter break an easier task. Each student had to complete the worksheet under parental supervision.

I’ve been uploading the worksheets individually and thought it might also be useful to upload one Pdf with all worksheets together to make printing a little easier (double sided copying for example).

Arabic attached/possessive pronouns

Bismillah,

Here is a worksheet to help review possessive pronouns (attached pronouns). It helps students to identify the possessive in the English sentence and then translate that into the Arabic pronoun they have been taught.

I’m using this worksheet with students who need more revision on this topic and this worksheet inshallah will give them the chance to review them in a format that isn’t my usual table format.
