Juz `Amma `Ilm to `Amal Series

Bismillah,

I was inspired by 1st Ethical’s commitment to making Islam practical and practised by young Muslims. So in that vain, I added a section in the Arabic studies workbooks where we as a class brainstorm ways in which to use the Surah in our lives to become better believers.

The task is for them to do one activity per surah and present it to the class. It can be a craft activity, reflection, poster, a poem and the list goes on….

Here are the activity sheets I made, selected some students to complete them and present to the class:

Surah Al-Bayyinah crossword quiz

Bismillah,

The test set for this week for the students learning Surah al-Bayyinah this term was to memorize the keywords from the surah. So I thought, rather than making a straightforward vocabulary test where they input the correct Arabic/English keyword, why not give them an Arabic-English crossword to solve. I can always test their knowledge of keywords in other ways, such as by using flashcards.

Fridge copy grammar review sheet

Bismillah,

Every week the parents receive a weekly update on what was taught and ways in which the parents can help their children. This week I’m attaching this grammar sheet for them to print and stick on their fridge door. It’s a way to ensure that by the time they come for their next Arabic lesson on Saturday that they are ahead of the game insha Allah.

Each grammar review series will only cover a few grammar points at a time. This is the first one:

Attached pronouns

Bismillah,

The students have previously learnt the concept of attached pronouns in Arabic. I have to make sure that they have understood the concept and can add the attached pronouns to the noun correctly. Since this is Qur’anic Arabic, I have chosen two keywords from Surah al-`Alaq that a simple to use.

Here’s the attached pronoun practise worksheet:

Ice breaker activity

 Bismillah,

So I’ve been looking around for ways to start my first lesson of the academic year, and I thought it might be a good idea to start with something fun before we discuss classroom rules, and set my expectations for the year. That is the kind of atmosphere I want in my classes – between fun and serious. Inshallah kheir.

I created this ice breaker sheet for this purpose. It’s simple – each student takes a skittle out of the bag and  answers the question that corresponds to that skittle flavour. A starburst version is here:
