Kids Halaqa

Bismillah,

I have recently started an Islamic after-school circle for girls in my local area. I have decided to make the sessions a mixture of Arabic, Qur’an and Islamic studies and definitely a safe space for the girls to express themselves.

This page will document the journey and I hope will help other local after-school groups insha Allah. Please note that I have linked to other people’s work too.

Monday 21st September: Session (1)

  • Introduction: I introduced myself to the group and told them about the ice breaker which would allow us to get to know each other.
  • Ice breaker: Asked girls to sit next to someone they didn’t know. Then, I gave out a doll template (can be purchased from Poundland in the UK) to each kid and asked them to interview each other. Questions could be about: name, age, hobbies, favourite food etc. Then we went around the circle, starting from the right side, and each child got to tell us about their findings and presented the doll template to their partner at the end as a gift.
  • Main: As we were in the 10 Days of Dhul Hijja, I took the opportunity of sharing the “10 things to do in the 10 days of Dhul Hijja”.

The girls and I ended the session by playing the game UNO. I explained how the theme of Oneness which we explored in the tafsir of Surah al-Ikhlas led me to remember the game UNO which means one in Spanish.

The girls loved it and alhamdolillah it was nice to have some fun together 🙂

Tuesday 20th October: Session (5):  Autumn

I homeschool my two sons (age 8 and 5) and today I used your resource (surah Al Ikhlas) in our Islamic lesson -understanding the Quran. May Allah reward you immensely and put barakah in your work.
